Community Financial Literacy Education

We offer group educational programs that promote financial literacy. These workshops are easily adaptable to all segments of our community and they can be delivered on-site for civic organizations, churches, schools, employee groups, and more. More specific information about them follows:

Personal Money Management

  • Setting financial goals.
  • Distinguishing between needs and wants.
  • Tracking monthly spending.
  • Creating a budget.
  • Prioritizing spending and shopping wisely.
  • Program can be tailored to young adults.

Understanding Credit

  • Distinguishing between the various types and sources of credit.
  • Establishing and reestablishing credit.
  • Warning signs of debt overextension.
  • Tips for wise credit management.
  • Options for managing debt.
  • Program can be tailored to young adults.
  • “Student borrowing” for high school and college audiences.

Money and Credit Management

  • Combines the above two workshops into one.

Transitional Financial Management

  • Teaches essential money and credit management skills relevant to those dealing with transitional events such as retirement, separation from the military, and reentering the workforce.

Obtaining and Understanding Credit Reports

  • How to obtain free copies of your credit report.
  • Positive/negative impact of credit use.
  • How to read, understand, and dispute/correct information on your credit report.

Identity Theft/Credit Fraud

  • Various forms of identity theft/credit fraud.
  • Steps to take if your identity has been stolen.
  • Tips to reduce chances of identity theft/credit fraud.
  • Obtaining and understanding credit reports.

“Consumer Beware” Issues

  • Consumer rights and responsibilities in the market place.
  • Legislation and regulations that protect consumers.
  • Remedies that can be employed in situations where consumers have delinquent debt(s).
  • Repercussions of, and the true costs involved in, using non-traditional avenues for financing (“pay-day loans”, pawn shops, etc.)

Homeownership Education

  • How to make an offer to buy a home.
  • Roles of buyers, sellers, real estate agents, and more.
  • The importance of home inspections.
  • Costs of renting vs. buying.
  • Overview of the mortgage application.
  • Differences between loan products.
  • Housing–related terminology.
  • Closing costs and documents.
